What players are learning
Improve first-step movement and balanced passing outside the body's midline.
Set it up
- Set two cones 8 feet apart.
- Place a target near the net or center of the court.
Run the drill
- A player starts between the cones.
- The coach points left or right, then tosses near that cone.
- The player shuffles, stops, and passes to the target before returning to center.
What to say
- Beat the ball to the spot.
- Stop before contact.
- Keep shoulders calm and platform simple.
Make it harder
- Randomize left and right and initiate with a short serve so the passer reads instead of anticipating.
