CYO volleyball coaching

Practical help for the season you volunteered to coach.

You do not need a club-volleyball background to give young players an organized, encouraging season. Start with the coaching moment directly in front of you.

Coach the whole team

A good season is bigger than the rotation sheet.

CYO teams often bring together different experience levels, family expectations, and local participation rules. Clear routines and positive communication make the volleyball easier to teach.

01

Culture and sportsmanship

Make respect, belonging, effort, and care for teammates visible parts of every practice and match.

02

Players and parents

Explain attendance, communication, participation, and playing-time expectations before confusion becomes conflict.

03

Calm match-day preparation

Arrive with a roster, serving order, participation plan, equipment check, and one or two simple team goals.

Before match day

Confirm the rules that apply to your league.

Rotation, substitution, serving, participation, roster, and scoring rules can differ by diocese, parish, age group, and local league. Use this site for coaching guidance, then verify the current rules with your athletic director or league organizer.
