What players are learning
Learn the rhythm of a hitting approach before adding a ball.
Set it up
- Players line up behind the 10-foot line.
- No ball needed.
Run the drill
- Walk the approach: left, right-left plant for right-handers.
- Swing both arms back, then up as you jump.
- Repeat at a jog, then at full speed, 10 reps each.
What to say
- Slow, fast, fast.
- Big second-to-last step.
- Both arms back, then up.
How to score it
None. Rhythm reps, 10 per player.
Make it harder
- Approach and jump, touching the net tape or reaching over.
