A point only counts if the team wins both the side-out and the free ball that follows.

Set it up

  1. Six on six with one team receiving.
  2. The coach with a ball cart at the net.

Run the drill

  1. The receiving team must side out on the serve.
  2. The coach immediately enters a free ball to the other side.
  3. Winning both balls earns one wash point. Play to five.

What to say

  • Two balls, one point.
  • Finish both.
  • Do not relax after the side-out.

How to score it

Only a wash — winning both the side-out and the defensive ball — scores. Play to 5 wash points.

  1. Make it three balls to earn a point.
