What players are learning

Learn to convert a free ball into a full offensive attack.

01

Set it up

  1. Six players on court in a defensive base.
  2. The coach with a ball cart on the other side.
02

Run the drill

  1. The coach yells free and tosses a free ball over.
  2. The front row pulls off the net and the setter releases.
  3. The back row passes and the team runs a full attack.
03

What to say

  • Free ball means everybody moves.
  • Off the net, hitters.
  • Pass it to the setter, do not just hit it back.
04

How to score it

10 free balls. Count how many end in a completed attack from a setter-run offense.

05

Make it harder

  1. Coach mixes in a hard-driven ball with no call, so players have to read rather than react to the word.
