What players are learning
Learn to convert a free ball into a full offensive attack.
Set it up
- Six players on court in a defensive base.
- The coach with a ball cart on the other side.
Run the drill
- The coach yells free and tosses a free ball over.
- The front row pulls off the net and the setter releases.
- The back row passes and the team runs a full attack.
What to say
- Free ball means everybody moves.
- Off the net, hitters.
- Pass it to the setter, do not just hit it back.
How to score it
10 free balls. Count how many end in a completed attack from a setter-run offense.
Make it harder
- Coach mixes in a hard-driven ball with no call, so players have to read rather than react to the word.
