What players are learning
Learn to hold your base until the setter shows you the ball.
Set it up
- A live setter and two or three hitters on one side.
- Blockers on the other side.
Run the drill
- Blockers start in base position.
- They may only move after reading the setter's hands.
- Track correct reads out of 15.
What to say
- Ball, then setter, then hitter.
- Do not guess before the release.
- Move on the set, not the pass.
How to score it
Coach calls out when a blocker commits early. Track correct reads out of 15.
Make it harder
- The setter deliberately mixes tempo to punish early commits.
