What players are learning
Learn to reach over the net instead of just jumping up.
Set it up
- A partner holds a ball above the tape, on a box if needed.
- The blocker stands opposite.
Run the drill
- The blocker jumps and presses their hands onto the held ball.
- The partner gives resistance.
- Take 10 reps while the coach checks hand position.
What to say
- Reach over, not up.
- Shoulders past the tape.
- Fingers spread wide and strong.
How to score it
10 reps. Coach checks for hands penetrating past the plane and fingers spread wide.
Make it harder
- Partner tosses the ball off the blocker's hands so they feel a real deflection.
