What players are learning
Learn to get a swing even when the pass is bad.
Set it up
- Full team on court.
- The coach initiates with a ball that forces a bad first contact.
Run the drill
- The setter cannot get the second ball, so someone else takes it.
- The team must still generate an attack, usually a high outside ball.
- Run 12 starts and count attacks instead of free balls.
What to say
- Bad pass, high outside.
- Never send a free ball over.
- Somebody call the second ball.
How to score it
12 out-of-system starts. Count how many end in an attack instead of a free ball over.
Make it harder
- Restrict the team from sending anything over on two contacts.
