Blocker vs. Hitter

A one-on-one competition at the net with points for stuffs, touches, and kills.

Set it up

  1. One hitter with a live setter on one side.
  2. One blocker on the other side, no defense.

Run the drill

  1. The hitter tries to score and the blocker tries to stop or touch.
  2. The blocker scores two for a stuff and one for a touch.
  3. The hitter scores two for a kill and one for a ball in play. Race to 10.

What to say

  • Take a side and own it.
  • Do not try to cover the whole net.
  • Hitter, make them move.

How to score it

Blocker gets 2 for a stuff, 1 for a touch. Hitter gets 2 for a kill, 1 for a ball in play. Race to 10, then switch.

Make it harder

  1. Hitter may tip, forcing the blocker to make real decisions.
